Why We Launched Spour (Even Though We’ve Always Said Liquids Work Best)
If you’ve been with us a while, you know we’ve always stood by one thing: liquid mushroom extracts are the gold standard. They’re potent, fast-absorbing, and the most effective way to get the full spectrum of mushroom benefits. And if you can get a liquid extract with fruit body (not just mycelium) and from all USA mushrooms, in a powerful dual liquid extract, you've struck gold.
So we've already cracked the code, making powerful and pure liquid extracts. Why would we release Spour — a line of matcha, coffee, and chai powders infused with mushrooms? Doesn’t that contradict what we’ve been saying all along?
Not really. Here’s why.
Powders vs. Liquids: A Quick Recap
-
Liquid extracts (like our core Vesper Mushrooms line) go through a double or triple extraction process that pulls out the widest range of beneficial compounds. They’re concentrated, bioavailable, and easy for your body to absorb.
-
Standard mushroom powders are often just dried, ground fruiting bodies (or worse, mycelium on grain). While they can taste fine, they’re typically less potent because they haven’t gone through a full extraction. Not to mention all of the fillers.
That’s why our focus is continually on potent and effective liquid extracts.
So Why Spour?
Because many people still prefer their mushroom coffee, matcha, chai blends -- these are rituals people already love. But due to the makeup of the most common powders on the market, those people end up missing out on a lot from their preferred drink mixes.
We wanted to create a fun, tasty way to enjoy mushrooms that fits naturally into your morning routine. Adding mushrooms to them makes it easy (and delicious) to get an extra boost.
The catch? We weren’t going to compromise on quality just to make powder blends. Here's what we mean;
The Freeze-Dried Extract Difference
Here’s what makes Spour stand apart from most mushroom powders and mushroom coffees on the market:
-
We start with the same USA-grown mushrooms we use in our liquid extracts.
-
Instead of just grinding them down, we extract with them with hot water first (the same way we do for our liquids).
-
Then we freeze-dry the liquid extract into a powder. This water-soluble powder is designed not leave an unappetizing residue at the bottom of your mug and will remain bio-available.
The result: a powder that keeps much of the potency of a liquid extract — and works better than standard powders that skip the extraction step entirely.
Honest Expectations
We’ll be real with you:
-
Our liquid extracts are still the strongest, most effective way to get the full mushroom experience.
-
Spour powders won’t hit quite that level. They’re not meant to replace your extracts.
Instead, think of Spour as a bridge: a fun, flavorful way to enjoy mushrooms daily, while keeping your liquid extract schedule for the maximum effect. Heck, you can even start adding your liquid extract to the powder for an enhanced mushroomy recipe.
Why We’re Excited
At the end of the day, our mission is to elevate life with mushrooms. To do that, we have to make mushrooms more accessible, enjoyable, and part of everyday life. Spour is a way to:
-
Introduce more people to mushrooms through drinks they already love.
-
Offer something fun and tasty but still effective alongside our powerful extracts.
-
Give our community more options for building their own mushroom routine.
Final Thoughts
Launching a powder line might seem like a strange move for a company that’s always championed liquids. But we also believe in meeting people where they are — and sometimes that means a steaming cup of mushroom-infused matcha, coffee, or chai.
So enjoy Spour as a tasty, accessible entry point, but when you want the full power of mushrooms, our liquid extracts are still the way to go.
